George, the owner, is an excellent example of commitment not just to his business but most importantly to those customers who value him to provide consistent, reliable service and who also understand that these stores are service providers. As such, if you're one of those people who seem to feel the need to slander his business and either one, have never done business in his store or two, haven't really provided the facts regarding your own behavior, understand that it can come back on you if you are employed by a local business and people put two and two together with information you put out there in the public forum (i.e. Facebook and where you work on your profile). Someone can easily come into the place where you work with documentation in hand of your posts in a sealed envelope and hand to the owner for him/her to open after that customer leaves his/her business for the last time because of you.
I called UPS Store customer service and while they confirmed that a receipt is not a requirement, once the package is scanned, it is "in the system" to the extent that it is proven you have dropped it off and you are absolved of responsibility for it if, say, it gets lost. That's why, once the location scans it, you are often immediately refunded by Amazon (for example). This is because you have confirmation that you have dropped it off.
It all depends on who you get. There are several staff members that are very courteous and professional. Others give the store a bad name. Much like the DMV this is kind of the only game in town so if you need the services there isn't much choice. I believe this is my third year with a box at this store and I have had about that many incidents with customer service so bad that I've felt I needed to take my complaint somewhere other than the store owner (it's an independently owned franchise). Most of my issues have revolved around their selective enforcement of corporate policies. If they were consistent, even with their rudeness I would have less of a problem. The rudeness and sarcasm get so bad at times it has patrons in the lobby looking at others in disbelief. What would really turn this store around is competition. Right now there is no incentive for them to do any better than they are. Who knows if complaints to corporate do anything but I'm certain keeping quiet does nothing. I will keep calling and emailing until I get in touch with the right person. They are not doing customers a favor. Their services cost money and should come with at least some semblance of respect if not appreciation.
Re: George's explanation below -
Suffice it to say, this bizarre policy has engendered plenty of negative word of mouth and is well known in the area.
Ordered a sweater from an independent retailer, and apparently he is the reason many customers won’t receive their packages in time. He accosted the young girl who is shipping our items, would not release her shipping items to her, and threatened to call the police on her for simply being a customer! Because he doesn’t agree with the statements on the sweaters she is selling. George Berkeley, this is specifically for you.... if you haven’t noticed lately, Black women get ish done! You don’t have to get behind us, but you might not want to stand in our way. You might not think these sweaters look good on us, but discrimination and bigotry doesn’t look good on anybody sweetie.
It is unclear as to why this location is so passionate about not printing receipts - it is the only store to flat out refuse to do so that I have encountered in over 20 years of mailing packages - but George's explanation here is insufficient and at least a little obfuscating and dishonest, unless the concern is primarily (as I suspect) to not be responsible for the packages under this location's watch. This is especially troubling, considering that the employees will often just ask you to leave the packages on the desk even when things are busy, which doesn't provide any level of comfort that someone won't simply pick up your package abscond with it. I have dropped off packages this way and walked back down South Orange Avenue 15 minutes later to see them still sitting out. And you wonder why we ask for receipts?
customer sevice always good. accidently left my cell phone at the store. they called my wife before we made it home and we were able to retrieve it without incident. thanks guys.
